Trimming Calories
Wearing a little too much around the waist line? Here are a few substitutions to help you trim a few calories.

| using butter, margarine, oil or shortening for frying potatoes or eggs, browning meats or greasing pans | use non-stick pans or vegetable oil spray |

| Swiss, cheddar, American cheese | low fat mozzarella, ricotta, or cottage cheese |
| sour cream | plain yogurt or low fat sour cream |
| potato chips | popcorn with no butter, pretzels |
| ice cream | sherbet, frozen yogurt, low fat dairy desserts, Italian ices, sorbets |
| mayonnaise | light mayonnaise or equal parts mayonnaise and yogurt |
| whole milk | 1% or 2% milk, skim milk |
| ham, hot dogs, cold cuts | chicken, turkey, fish |
| tuna packed in oil | tuna packed in water |
| canned fruit in syrup | canned fruit in juice |
| sausage, salami, bologna | sliced chicken or turkey |
