Calcium in the diet
Calcium is a necessary part of our diet. It is essential for healthy bones and lack of calcium can cause osteoporosis.
Who is at risk?
Women, especially after the age of 30 and at menopause have a greater risk of osteoporosis.
If you are on anticonvulsant medications you should consult your doctor to determine the risk factors.
If you do little or no weight bearing exercise (walking or running)

Milk (low fat skim, whole, buttermilk)
PROTEIN GROUP
macaroni and cheese
sardines (high in sodium)
tofu
cheddar cheese
American cheese
Swiss cheese
cottage cheese
Starch Group
kidney beans
soups that are milk based
puddings and custard
Vegetables ( the body does not absorb calcium as well from this group)
kale
collard greens
broccoli
