Here are some safety tips that you may want to consider when
mowing a yard. These tips apply whether you are doing it commercially or
just your own yard.
Follow manufacturers instructions and safety procedures for
the equipment that you are operating.
Use common sense.
Wear shoes, gloves and safety glasses when operating
dangerous equipment.
Do not use gasoline near a flame.
if you are using an extension cord it is best to carry it
over the shoulder opposite the hand holding the equipment.
Store gasoline in an outside area
do not store gasoline in the trunk of a car.
do not store gasoline in a glass container
do not pour gasoline into a running or hot engine.
do not stand downhill of a mower.
Be sure to turn the mower off before attempting to remove
items lodged in the blades. when i was 14 a neighbor actually
tried to remove clogged damp grass from a mower. He lost 3
fingers. Ever since i remove the spark plug from the mower or at
least remove the plug wire.
Clear trash and rocks out of yard before mowing.
Grass chutes should never be pointed towards people or
animals! The blades can turn stones and branches into dangerous
projectiles. I got hit by a bicycle inner tube half as a kid.
I was about 15 feet away and it hit me across my back, left a big
welt, knocked me out, and they thought I had my back broken according to my
grandmother. All I can remember about it is that it hurt like Hades
for about a week.
