Increasing calories
On occasion you may have a need to increase your caloric intake. Here are some nutrient and calorie dense foods.
Add non-fat dry milk powder to milk beverages, soups, puddings, mashed potatoes, hot cereals.
Eat dried fruits such as raisins, apricots, or dates. Be sure to include adequate fluids in the diet.
Eat 3 meals a day and snacks in between.
Use nuts as snacks or add to salads sandwiches or vegetables.
For snacks make banana pops by freezing bananas rolled in nuts, granola or even crushed corn flakes.
Eat peanut butter sandwiches, This is a high calorie food and makes a good snack. For variation add a banana.
Drink high calorie juices such as prune, grape, pineapple, cranberry juices and nectars. You may want to try blending several juices together such as apricot and apple, cranberry and apple, pineapple and apricot.
