Earth is in regression. Society is crumbling. The United States is a thing of the past and Dixie is one of the three main countries in North America. Ben Driscoll formulated the Grand Unified Field Theorem and it was brought to the attention of a group calling itself Project Hope and in six months the Weak Force Intermodulation Projector was in production . This device, called a fission blanket projected a field that affected the nuclear environment so no reaction could take place. Fossil fuel reserves drain quickly and the global community quickly disappears. The sheep ( general populace) blame the scientists for their problems and soon science is banned. Allen Chandliss, in utmost secrecy, has his own private if primitive radio telescope..One day he gets a strange signal out of Casseopeia at 20 cm. - a clear signal. With much trouble he manages to get a message to the only other Radio astronomer that he knew that answered, Laurence Eddington. The signal is a complex one that has some of the surviving scientists puzzled, but is broken by Eddingtons 12 year old daughter. After an arrest for treason Eddington goes nuts and is institutionalized after the king pardons them. The Indian Prime minister then takes up the search, he has a vision and not even the Beautiful Chinese leader would be able to thwart it plans although she tries. It is up to him to prepare the world for our visitors, because the message was that they were coming. Although lacking on the action I generally prefer in the books I read, this first book of the Trigon Disunity is a book I would recommend reading if you haven't had the chance
