| The Email below was forwarded to me by the author after a phone conversation telling me of his experience. I felt that I should include this on my web page. I think this is the appropriate page to place it on because it will show visitors that there are still people in Oklahoma that care about others and their welfare, that such caring and actions is not just something seen on television. The only changes I have made is to correct typos. Garry is no longer with us but I leave this up in memoriam. RIP My friend. |
From: "Garry Baker" To: webmaster@tulsaworld.com Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 02:43:18 -0500 Subject: He saved my life! There is an unknown Fed-Ex driver here in Tulsa who saved my life Wednesday, the 13th. I am a double amputee in an electric wheelchair and I was driving home in my chair westbound on 11th Street just west of Lewis Avenue when the circuit-breaker popped leaving me stranded on the railroad tracks. My heart jumped into my throat when I heard and saw a train bearing down on me. I cannot even stand, much less do anything else and I was terrified I was going to be hit. The chair wouldn't move at all and the automatic brakes had locked the wheels. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a FedEx driver screeched to a stop and ran out of the truck and started pulling on my chair with all his strength. A truck driver saw what was happening and ran to his aid and together they pulled me off the tracks just in the nick of time. Thank God for these men who risked their safety to come to my aid. I know of two guardian angels in the Tulsa area who are disguised as a truck driver and a FedEx driver. God Bless them. Garrett J. Baker |
