This is MY book review. The titles here are, for the most part not NEW releases although there will be occasional ones. Some of these books are ones I read ten-fifteen years ago and have recently re-read. The majority of the books found here will be Science Fiction and a lot of them will be military science fiction.  I think stories on future war is about the best SF there is.  I do enjoy some alternate history and a lot of the regular SF.   With the exception of some Piers Anthony, I detest most fantasy and I don't consider it SF although it seems to always be grouped with SF at the book stores. When possible (meaning when I remember to) I will add the ISBN # and the publisher. Oh yeah, They are NOT in the order I read them although I believe I will keep them grouped by author, AND these are my personal opinions. Enjoy!

-Harry Turtledove- WORLD WAR: STRIKING THE BALANCE Last of the Alternate History World War series ISBN:0-345-41208-7 © 1997 547 pg. Del Rey Paperback The Race is beginning to see that it will not be able to conquer Earth. In an unheard of move Avatar opens negotiations with Russia, Germany and The United States. The Race is running out of vital weapons and has no means to replace them. Earth has jet fighters and has improved their radar. Germany and the United States have missiles. This is a great series and I highly recommend that you read it. There is one more, the second that I have not yet had the pleasure to read, that is Tilting The Balance. Although I do recommend reading them in order not having read that particular book does nothing to deter form the whole series. EX Back to Index

-David Weber- Heirs of Empire ISBN: 0-671-87707-0 © 1996 533 pg. Baen Paperback The war against the Achuutani is not over, but they have been fought off. Earth is part of the Empire, and Emperor Colin The First in fact, is from Terra. But there are still traitors and one is out to kill his whole family, in fact will stoop to destroying 80 thousand people and a valuable battle ship to assassinate the Emperors Twin children on their first cruise as midshipmen in the Battle Fleet. Unfortunately for the Traitor, he doesn't get the kids who soon find themselves on a planet that makes the Inquisition look tame. They are declared demons by the Mother Church. May the church's version of God have mercy on it's members because Sean and Harriet and their friends aren't! Again David Weber tells a tale that is interesting from the moment you pick it up till the moment the story ends. My recommendation? Forget the spouse, forget the kids, the job or whatever, stay up all night if you have to to finish this novel, but read it ! It is GREAT! EX Back to Index

Baen SF pb Colion MacIntire was a NASA astronaut before he got entangled in with the ancient self aware warship that was disguised as Earth's moon.. He is drafted as it's captain to supress a five thousand year old mutiny and mobilize Earth's defences against a old enemy. - Don Pendleton - Satan's Thrust Stony Man ISBN: 0-373-67905-7This book was created for Pendleton's series and no author name was given, although it does say special thanks to Patrick F. Rogers for his contribution. © 1996 by World Wide Library Mack is sent to Russia to help track down the source that is selling nuclear warheads. Add a Vice President out to get Hal and the whole team and you have one of the best books I have read of the Pendleton creations. VG Back to Index

- EE "Doc" Smith - Triplanetary ISBN: 0-425-05383-0Berkley This is the first book of the Famous Lensman series. In this book the war between Arisia and Eddore begins, progressing through Eddorian control of Tellus and on. Ok, this isn't the first time I read it, nor the second or even the third.. Like the rest of the series it is one that I don't want to put down once I begin. Although the original copyright was 1948, age has done nothing to temper the adventure Doc Smith wrote of. Sure, technology has surpassed that period (in one instance or so), but it is still a great book. EX Back to Index

Stories include Spanish Man's Grave by James Warner Bellah (Remember the John Wayne movies with Corporal Tyree??) Marius by Poul Anderson and Ranks of Bronze by David Drake. Tor Paperback Former Senator Altman is in charge of the Greeley Project and will go to any means to see that it is successful, Emerson Ngu and his family are one of the thousands of "clients" of the Greeley Project, and, unlike most pf them, Emerson is NOT a happy camper. After managing to escape, Emerson becomes a regular pain in the ...side of Altman. The book contains a lot of interesting quotes also, including this one credited to Robert A. Heinlein in his book The Notebooks of Lazurus Long. THE HUMAN RACE DIVIDES POLITICALLY INTO THOSE WHO WANT PEOPLE TO BE CONTROLLED AND THOSE THAT HAVE NO SUCH DESIRE. Stop and think about it.. [grin] I really enjoyed the book, and in fact, found it hard to put down to do other things like answering the E-mail, going to the store, eating, sleeping, Things like that. Due to troubles with his wife and her drug dealing boyfriend Captain Clancy Allaird is forced to smuggle his 12 year old daughter aboard. Mutiny, Revolution, aliens, boredom and action from a vindictive wife await Allaird and his crew. [VG] I recommend you read this book if you haven't. it is good. Back to Index

ROC Paperback Due to circumstances beyond his control Lister joins the Space Corps and finds himself aboard the Red Dwarf which should get him back to Earth in 6 or 7 years. Life on a Space ship as a janitor isn't exactly exciting so Lister breaks the rules just enough for a minor infraction, a couple of months in suspension. 3 million years later the ships computer wakes him up. -Susan R. Matthews- An Exchange Of Hostages ISBN: 0-380-78913-2 © 1997 372 pg. Avon/Nova Paperback Andrej Koscuisko is a surgeon who is forced by his father to join Fleet to become a ships surgeon. In Fleet Ships Surgeon meant Ships Inquisitor. This is the story of Andrej and his studies and trials at the special school for inquisitors. This is a different and unique approach to science fiction. It followed a logical progression and was all to human in the actions. [VG] Back to Index
